Sharmeka Hinsey: Client Relations & Business Development at Field Case Managers (FCM)

Sharmeka Hinsey, a dynamic professional in client relations and business development at Field Case Managers (FCM), brings a blend of compassion, dedication, and expertise to her role. Originally from the Bahamas, Sharmeka is not only a committed professional but also a proud mother, grandmother, and lover of cooking, dancing, and spending quality time with her family. Her vibrant personality and passion for her work shine through in everything she does.

Sharmeka’s journey into the workers’ compensation industry began unexpectedly. “I was working at an orthopedic office at the front desk, and I had formed these great relationships with the case managers that came into the office,” she recalls. “I just started asking questions about workers’ compensation and realized it was something I found interesting.” Since 2010, she has been making an impact in the industry, driven by a desire to ensure clients receive the best care and support. For Sharmeka, the most rewarding part of her work is knowing the positive difference she and her team make in people’s lives. “My motivation for coming to work every day is knowing that we are doing good work,” she shares. “Knowing that we are making a difference in someone’s life. And I also have a great boss.” Her admiration for her boss, Teddy Gonzalez, is evident. “I am so impressed with his work ethic and his love for what he does,” she adds.

Sharmeka’s role involves ensuring clients receive top-tier care for their injured workers and supporting case managers in delivering exceptional service. She also coordinates and attends marketing events, helping to expand FCM’s reach and reputation. “We are working on keeping the FCM, Inc. name connected to integrity and giving our clients ‘white glove service,’” she says with pride.

Sharmeka’s approach to her work is deeply rooted in forming meaningful connections. “My approach is to form as many relationships as possible with industry professionals. To form friendships as well as professional relationships,” she explains. Her genuine belief in the company she represents makes her work feel more like sharing about a trusted friend than a job.

A strong advocate for women supporting women, Sharmeka believes in the importance of empowerment and encouragement. “I think in any industry it is very important for women to empower and uplift each other,” she says. “For me, it means checking in on each other, asking how you’re doing, and just giving someone a smile.”

Despite her busy schedule, Sharmeka has mastered the art of balancing work and home life. “I always find a shut-off time,” she says. “That’s when I step away from the computer at night and focus on family.” Her family is her greatest source of joy and inspiration, and she is especially proud of her role as a grandmother. “I am most proud to be a grandmother,” she beams.

Reflecting on the industry, Sharmeka notes the challenges of an aging workforce and the need for fresh talent. “A lot of great case managers are aging out and retiring,” she observes. “We need new nurses, and we need the experienced nurses to recruit and train new faces.”

Sharmeka also emphasizes the importance of communication in workers’ compensation. “We need to have better communication between the doctors and the patients, adjusters, and employers,” she says. Her strategy for clear communication involves tailoring her message to her audience and encouraging questions to ensure understanding.

Sharmeka’s career and life are a testament to her resilience and passion. After taking a six-year break from marketing, she is proud to have re-entered the field and continues to thrive. “At this point in time, I am my happiest,” she reflects. “I have a job that I love, a boss that values me and my work. My family is thriving. I am very confident in who I am.”

Her advice for others in the industry is simple yet profound: “If you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. Find what made you get into this field. Find what made you fall in love with it. You always have to fall in love again. Whether that be work life or home life, you have to work at it.”

Sharmeka Hinsey’s story is one of dedication, compassion, and the power of building meaningful relationships. Through her work at FCM, she continues to inspire and uplift those around her, leaving a lasting impact on the workers’ compensation industry.
