Mindfulness, Mental Health & Crystals—Am I Onto Something?

Written by Samantha Diaz

Life moves fast. Between deadlines, responsibilities, and the constant noise of the world, it’s easy to feel disconnected—from ourselves, from our emotions, from the present moment. As someone currently pursuing my master’s in mental health counseling, I spend a lot of time reflecting on what it means to truly care for our minds and spirits.

Mental health isn’t just about managing stress or treating symptoms—it’s about cultivating a deeper relationship with ourselves.

That’s where mindfulness comes in. It’s a practice of paying attention, of slowing down, of noticing what we often ignore. Whether it’s through deep breathing, meditation, or simply being fully present in everyday tasks, mindfulness allows us to step out of autopilot and into awareness. Research shows that mindfulness brings about various positive psychological effects, including increased subjective well-being, reduced psychological symptoms and emotional reactivity, and improved behavioral regulation.

And then, there are crystals. I genuinely believe in their healing energy—not just as beautiful stones, but as powerful tools for balance and intention. While mainstream science hasn’t fully embraced their effects, countless people, including myself, have experienced a sense of grounding, clarity, and emotional relief through working with them. Whether it's the soothing presence of amethyst or the heart-opening energy of rose quartz, crystals have a way of enhancing mindfulness and fostering a deeper connection to ourselves. For me, the intersection of psychology and holistic practices is fascinating. Science tells us that mindfulness reduces stress, improves emotional regulation, and even changes the brain. And while crystals may not be a replacement for therapy or medication, if they bring comfort, intention, or even just a small moment of peace in a chaotic day, then they have value.

At the end of the day, mental health is deeply personal. What works for one person may not work for another. The key is to stay open, explore, and find what brings you balance. For me, it’s a mix of psychology, mindfulness, and, yes, a little bit of crystals. What about you?
