Laticia Richter: Workers' Compensation Specialist II at PGCS Claim Services

We had the privilege of speaking with Laticia Richter, a Workers' Compensation Specialist II in the Subrogation Unit at PGCS Claim Services. As both a Workers’ Compensation (WC) Adjuster and a Subrogation Adjuster, Laticia brings a unique dual perspective to her work, supporting injured workers while advocating for her clients’ recoveries.

Hailing from California, Laticia is a dedicated mother of three adult children and a grandmother to seven. She balances her professional life with family, DIY projects, and her love for attending sporting events. At home, she shares her life with two adorable pugs, Reggie and Roscoe, who bring her daily joy.

Laticia’s journey into the workers' compensation industry began unexpectedly in April 2000, when she took a temporary job with a WC carrier in Central Florida. Initially intended to last just two weeks, that role turned into a 17-year career, during which she earned her All-Lines Adjuster license, solidifying her commitment to the field. Her typical work week now involves a series of critical tasks, from acknowledging injury notices and coordinating with case management to asserting third-party liens and securing recoveries in subrogation. It’s a career that aligns with her passion for helping others, providing a sense of fulfillment in knowing she can make a difference for injured workers and her clients alike.

Raised by a family of empowering women, Laticia’s mother, Pearl, and grandmother, Oree, instilled in her the strength, courage, and confidence to take risks. Their unconditional love provided her a solid foundation, and she carries forward their influence in her own life by uplifting and empowering other women. "Recognizing each other's strengths fosters growth and confidence," she says, underscoring her belief in the power of supportive relationships.

Alongside her professional achievements, Laticia values her spiritual life and finds joy in attending church and church events, especially Gospel Fests, which bring her a sense of community and peace. This balance, along with her commitment to mental well-being, is crucial to her, especially now that she is an empty nester. Her focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance is evident in the supportive environment she fosters for herself and her colleagues.

Reflecting on her most cherished memories, she recalls the bittersweet moment her brother was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams when she was just 16. Laticia also fondly remembers her Alaskan cruise—her greatest adventure despite her dislike for cold weather. Traveling the world and experiencing diverse cultures remains her dream, and she hopes to someday make that a reality.

Her career has been a journey of growth and learning, with the best advice she's received being to remain open to opportunities and embrace constructive criticism. She emphasizes the value of common sense alongside intelligence, a combination she considers essential for informed decision-making in her field. Looking toward the future of workers' compensation, Laticia advocates for faster recovery processes, improved communication for injured workers, and enhanced resources to support individuals with learning disabilities or language barriers.

She encourages colleagues to establish a streamlined approach for obtaining work statuses and care plans for injured workers, highlighting the importance of clear communication in the field. For Laticia, her grandchildren bring her the greatest joy, and a pastel pink scarf has become her favorite piece of clothing.
