Danielle Stella: Risk Manager at Best Roofing

We had the privilege of speaking with Danielle Stella, Risk Manager at Best Roofing. Danielle’s career journey has been anything but conventional, evolving from her beginnings as a teacher to her current role in risk management. Her path has been defined by growth, adaptability, and a passion for making an impact.

"I was looking for a career change after spending a few years as a teacher," Danielle recalls. "I was given an opportunity as a Jr. HR Generalist, and that opened the door to my current field." Initially handling health insurance, associate relations, and workers' compensation claims, Danielle discovered her interest in the complexities of risk management. Her dedication and hard work earned her several promotions, leading to her current leadership role at Best Roofing.

Danielle's role is dynamic, requiring her to balance strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving. "Each morning, I start by discussing both old and new claims with my team," she shares.

"The rest of the day can include mediations, department projects, claim audits, and collaborating with different departments." With over six years of experience in risk management, Danielle is motivated by her ability to influence meaningful change. "I know my work has a direct impact on the company's success. Improving processes and ensuring a positive experience for injured associates is something I’m deeply committed to."

A key part of Danielle’s role is empowering her team. "I enjoy helping them work through challenging claims, encouraging critical thinking, and watching them grow professionally," she says. Her leadership style is grounded in fostering skill development and building confidence within her team.

Though Danielle never anticipated a career in risk management, it’s now a field she’s deeply passionate about. "When I started six years ago, I didn’t know much about risk management," she admits. "Now, I can’t imagine doing anything else." Her career has taught her the importance of adaptability, attention to detail, and patience, qualities she believes are crucial for success in her role.

To stay organized in her busy schedule, Danielle relies on practical productivity strategies like creating to-do lists and time-blocking tasks. These simple yet effective habits help her manage competing priorities and maintain focus. When it comes to career advice, Danielle emphasizes the importance of embracing feedback. "Search for the value in criticism," she advises. "It’s helped me refine my skills, adapt to new challenges, and grow both personally and professionally."

Currently, Danielle and her team are focused on optimizing processes and reducing expenses related to workers’ compensation claims. Her proactive approach reflects her commitment to continuous improvement and making a tangible difference in her organization.

Outside of work, Danielle leads a vibrant personal life. She enjoys cooking, reading, and has recently taken up golf—a hobby she finds both challenging and rewarding. "What a challenge that is!" she laughs, recounting her experiences on the course. As for networking, Danielle’s approach is refreshingly straightforward: "Say yes to everything!" This openness has allowed her to build meaningful connections and broaden her expertise. She also notes that a smile is often the first thing she notices about someone new—a simple but powerful indicator of warmth and approachability.

Danielle Stella’s story is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the pursuit of purpose. Her journey from teaching to risk management serves as an inspiring reminder that meaningful career changes are possible with hard work, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.
