Cheryl Gulasa: Senior Vice President, Managed Care at AmeriSys

In a field where every decision can shape someone’s path to recovery, Cheryl Gulasa stands out as a leader whose work is rooted in heart, strategy, and purpose. As Senior Vice President of Managed Care at AmeriSys, Cheryl brings both a clinical lens and a forward-thinking mindset to the workers’ compensation world—blending her background as a registered nurse with decades of leadership experience.

Her journey into the field wasn’t part of some long-term plan—it began when she took a role as a telephonic case manager. But it didn’t take long for Cheryl to see how deeply meaningful the work could be. That early realization sparked a passion that continues to fuel her today. “I saw how much of a difference I could make in someone’s life,” she shares, and that belief has guided her career ever since.

Today, she helps lead AmeriSys with a vision rooted in efficiency, innovation, and empathy. She believes that the future of this industry lies in technology—not to replace the human element, but to free up time for more strategic care. “Automating routine tasks allows us to do the kind of critical thinking and planning that truly changes outcomes,” she explains.

One of Cheryl’s strengths is balance. As committed as she is to her team and the clients they serve, she’s equally intentional about caring for her own well-being. Her secret? Structure, boundaries, and deep roots in family and faith. “My recharging comes from being with my loved ones,” she says. “My husband, my children, their spouses, and my grandsons—they bring me pure joy. With their support, all is well.”

That sense of groundedness extends to her leadership style. At AmeriSys, Cheryl has helped build a culture that rewards hard work and encourages growth. “We want to create opportunities for people to rise—from entry-level roles to leadership,” she says. “Watching that evolution is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job.”

For Cheryl, the most rewarding moments often come from stories that remind her why this work matters. She recalls a case involving a K9 deputy who suffered a serious neck injury while chasing a suspect. Through a combination of surgery, therapy, and support, he not only returned to full duty—he did so with his loyal canine partner by his side. It’s stories like this that remind her what’s possible when care is thoughtful, personal, and strategic.

Cheryl is also the force behind several key initiatives in the industry, including a cardiac disease state management program that still provides support for first responders today. It’s just one example of her belief in going beyond what’s required to create meaningful, lasting impact.

Whether she’s leading her team, mentoring others in the industry, or spending time with her grandsons, Cheryl leads with integrity, intention, and a deep commitment to people.

Her approach is holistic—grounded in balance, spiritual faith, and a belief in the power of doing the right thing. As the landscape of workers’ compensation continues to evolve, Cheryl Gulasa reminds us what leadership with heart looks like. She’s shaping a future where innovation meets compassion—and where every injured worker receives the kind of care that truly changes lives.
